Collagen has had one of the strangest journeys of any supplement in the last decade. Ten years ago it was a niche product sold in compounding pharmacies. Today it's in coffee creamers, protein bars, and the morning routines of roughly half the influencers on the UK Instagram explore page.
The claims are bold: better skin, stronger joints, healthier hair and nails. We wanted a clearer answer on what actually happens when a normal person adds a daily collagen scoop to their routine. So three of us picked up popular UK collagen powders and took them every morning for 30 days.
What we were looking for
- Skin. Any noticeable change in tone, texture or hydration.
- Joints. Whether the small everyday aches felt any different.
- Hair and nails. A standard before-and-after check at day 30.
- The unsexy stuff. Mixability, taste, and whether it actually fits into a busy morning.
What we found
The honest answer: it's a slow-burn supplement. Two of us noticed clearly stronger nails by week three. One noticed slightly better skin texture by day 30. Joint changes were harder to call. Mixability and taste varied wildly between brands — some dissolved cleanly into coffee, others clumped no matter what we did.
The full write-up, the powder we'd happily keep buying, and the two we wouldn't, will be published in the next issue.
